Ministry of Breaks 🔊 & Music from Plump DJs 🍔
Welcome to the CTRL Z Newsletter, the companion to the radio show and event series named for the most worn out keys on my keyboard. ⌨️
This week, we have a Breaks special, but don't worry, there's plenty of Acid to go around too.
Ministry of Breaks presents Bass n Breaks
Ministry of Breaks kick off their new monthly residency with a bang at La Estación 57 in South London in association with Breaks FM, The Vinyl Touch and Bassology. The line up includes Ministry of Breaks resident/promoter Blaze DJ, alongside Southside Breaks, Makkattack, Dead Bonsai, Rundr, Lockup and Zenmonkey.
Check out Skiddle for tickets.
Record of the Week
DJ Hockey - Ripple [Model Future]
A psychedelic percussion driven tune with punchy kicks and atmospheric textures. Claps and hi hats, instantly recognisable as the 909, cut through to build the energy as the track progresses.
Classic of the Week
Mr Velcro Fastener - Electric Appliances (Plump DJs Vocal Mix)
One of my favourite Plump DJs productions, this one was featured on their Fabric mix in 2003 and features a nice squelchy bass line alongside a monotone vocal duet.
Nikki Nair - Startrack [Pretty Weird]
A heavy Acid bass line drives this tune with a siren like riser in the breakdown before the bass line slowly builds back in before the drop.
On the radio show this week, we have a special guest mix from Ministry of Breaks’ Blaze DJ. This set was recorded live at CTRL Z in London back in July 2022. 🕺
As always, you can hear the radio show on Wednesdays at 5pm GMT/BST on Underground Kollektiv, Thursdays 5pm GMT/BST on Data Transmission, Saturdays at 11pm GMT/BST on Radio Roadhouse, monthly Fridays on Ibiza Club Radio and new episodes hit the podcast every Friday morning.
